Hi- I come down from John Sharpe and Marjorie/Margaret who died in 1749 and 1750 in Augusta County, Va. They left four children John, William, Jeannet and Marjorie. William Sharpe married Mary Meek and settled in what is now Pocahontas County, Va. I come down from this family. Some people have indicated that this family came from New Jersey to Va. I looked back on some early tax records and found so many families with the same names that it was some what confusing. If you have any knowledge of this family please advise. Thank You Nina J. site. As a James, whose father was a Harry (alt.Henry) with an uncle called John and, whose father in turn (my grandfather), was a William, it is really quite remarkable how many times those christian names repeat through most of the generations of some Sharp branches on this site. Whilst I was fairly young at time, I do recall my family being discovered by a Sharp branch from the Boston area back in the 70s (post Roots) and that was a Henry too. From this time I also remember that somebody called Sharp in the 19th century, allegedly, became a mormon and might have been on original mormon trek west. Certainly, there is a copy letter (in the attic somehwere) written at the time from a parent in England, berating the Sharp (female) in question for getting involved with such an heretical sect.... or words to that effect. Any knowledge or comments about this?

Nice site, I even saw a cousin's message who moved to Florida and I lost her web address. Anyway, its interesting to here about the Sharps all over this continent, I am always amazed by the amount of William Sharps in the family lienages, either people kept repeating the name every few generations or it is an amazing coincidence (my great grandfather and numerous cousins are Williams).
Williams father was Stevan Sharp and sailed from an English port in the 1820's so if we are related it is from the old country. Hey, you never know! Anyway, Hello from the Sharps and related families(and there are lots of us here) in western NY.

Our family lore is that seven Sharp brothers came up the Missouri River on a flatboat from Tennesse or Kentucky. They disembarked at Missouri City , Mo., and never saw each other again.
This would have been before the Civil War, perhaps in the 1850s. One of the brothers rode with Cantril's Raiders out of Kansas.
My grandfather was Charles Anderson Sharp, born c. 1880s, in Missouri. He married Alice Robey in 1912. Alice's mother was a Coates. They had two children -- Charles Marion Sharp (1915-1984) and Robey Sharp (1922-1980??).
Charles Marion Sharp was my father. He married Maxine Bishop in January 1943. They had three children -- me (Mary); Nancy Ellen Sharp (Vallentine) and Charles Anderson Sharp II.
A lot more of this stuff is written down in my grandmother Sharp's papers that I will, promise, get to one of these days.
I do remember that one of my grandfather Charles Anderson Sharp's brothers was named Walter Sharp and he lived in Richmond, Mo.
Most of the brothers lived in the Kansas City area and were farmers.
Good luck on the site. I'll revisit when I have more to contribute.

My maternal g-grandfather bought a plantation from the following Sharp in Meriwether Co., GA in what is now Durand (formerly Stinson). I would like to know more about this particular line of Sharps: Sharpe-Williams Plantation: "The Blumer Williams Place": The house was probably built by Rev. William Sharpe, who was born April 1, 1771 and died March 9, 1845 "aged 73 years, 11 months, & 10 days." The Sharpe Family Cemetery is across the road and fifty yards or so in front of the house. On the monument of the Rev. Sharpe in the family cemetery, the "e" is omitted from his name. On Mrs. Sharpe's upright headstone, her name is spelled "Judieth Sharpe." She died July 25, 1853 "aged 75 years, 5 months & 23 days" (Page 205 in unknown book).
